Earth Day!
I heard a sound bite on the radio news a few days back about humans using up too much of the sun’s energy.
I tracked it down to an article in the Sydney Morning Herald, an Australian newspaper.
Then I found a discussion about the article on Snopes. These are interesting reads, but they are not the scientific paper.
Guess what? At this point in time, the paper is available online at no charge.
An abstract is here at the website of Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. You can (at this writing) also download a pdf of the article here
To tell you the truth, since the Sydney Morning Herald article mentioned above was at an Australian site, I wondered if the whole thing was a joke. (I admire the Australian sense of humor and self deprecation, having spent a bit of time visiting an Australian family member in that country.)
But, to root for the truth didn’t take long. I urge anyone reading this to take a look at the links provided and do some of your own rooting.
What was the conclusion reached by the researchers? Did the Sydney Morning Herald put a spin on it? Did the SMH reporter appear to have read the complete paper? Did the scientists put a spin on their research?
Was the discussion on Snopes interesting, enlightening and/or entertaining?
You can have lots of fun rooting for the truth!
